The business owners I come across are very shy when it comes to why the started a business. The answers are normally to help others, improve a service, or have freedom. Come on! Did you start a business to save the world. If so, congratulations. Do you work hard to make little to no money week after week. Many for profit businesses treat their clients like charities. If that is the case reach higher and get better clients who are willing to pay for your services. The more you get paid the more money you will have to donate and do the things you want to do for your community. There are many great causes. However, face it you are unable to pay your mortgage with Karma Points. Imagine calling a vendor and saying that you helped out many people; however you did it for free and now you are looking for a return on your investment.
I am under the belief what goes around comes around. And yes as business owners it is our obligation to contribute to our local communities. There is also something to be said that you started a business to provide for the well being of your family. Avoiding charging clients/customers or fearful of asking for the deal just because you hate the "M" word is a harmful to your business' health. Have pride and go grab the spirit of your inner capitalist. It is okay to get paid for what you do. Have passion and yes the money will follow.
