Recently, I met with a very powerful and experienced CEO of a large organization. Over the past several months, his sales team had not been producing at a profitable level. Oddly enough the sales team had thought that they were making enough sales. This is not as uncommon as you may think. The disconnect comes in when goals are not clearly stated.
In this case, the sales team was selling. They also were selling at a level that they thought was acceptable because no one had told or had shown them otherwise.
- Clearly breakdown a goal so that it is reasonable.
- State the importance of the goal and why one is being introduced now.
- Look at where you are currently and look at where you want to be.
