Being a resident of Jacksonville, Florida we have to deal from time to time hurricanes and most recently we had a minor brush with Fay. To our surprise a named Tropical Storm was able to punch us so hard with rain that it caused over 50 million dollars worth of damage in Bevard County alone.

With storm preperations underway, I, like many others ran out at the last moment to buy additional food, water, bateries and other sundries. I  felt very fortunate that we had some items stored; however, there is nothing like being a little more prepared when the unknown is knocking on your door.

While shopping we encountered a very strange situation. It involves some basic logic but it is not that much of a stretch of the imigination. At our local Target a department manager was restocking kitchen ware items. Again considering that a Tropical Storm was on her way here it was still reasonable to think that Floridians would need additonal pots and pans

Being a coach,  I could not help but notice that this department manager had something that he had to get off of his chest. Call it a hunch if you like. In my coaching side manner I walked up and kindly asked how things were going. He then started to laugh and then proceeded to tell me the following. Every time a storm approaches they sell out of Electric Can Openers.

Considering that having a can opener on hand when you cannot pop something from the freezer to the microwave that would be a good thing. However what good is an ELECTRIC Can Opener during a blackout? NONE!

I thought that the department head was pulling my leg. Like a small child I had to see for myself. Sure enough there was NOT one Electric Can Opener could be found. INTERESTING and Funny! And truly you cannot make stuff like this up!

Lesson Here -  Just because you make motions like you are doing something does not mean that something actually got accomplished. This is a LIfe Lesson that you can really plug into.
