Wesley, my 2 year old son, has just learned one the key lessons in running a business. And in doing so he is now been promoted to Senior Executive.

Over the past weekend, Dawn, my amazing wife of many years had the idea that Wesley is now old enough to graduate to a "Big Boy" bed. Being 2 and a half this is a major step for both the parents and the child. Addionally, our husky little man of 41 pounds it was becoming a chore lifting him in and out of his crib. So we decided to purchase the latest and greatest race car bed with all of the accessories a little man could ever dream of and then some. The creators of the bed decided that it was a good idea to make sleeping a game. Apparently none of them actually have children - but I digress.

So the big night came to take the race car for it first full drive to sleepy town and adding to the fun Dawn even dressed him in his race car PJs. What a sight that Dale Ernhart would have even been proud of if he would have stopped by to tuck Wesley in bed.

Then during the night the car turned on Wesley and displayed a feature that we did not realize that was part of the sport package of the race car bed... While driving to sleepy town around 11 pm the bed became a mean monster which threw him out of bed. We did not witness it personally, but it must have been some feat. As parents we only heard the aftermath a huge thump which sounded like a bowling ball hitting the floor. Wesley was found tossed to the middle of his room!

When we rushed into his room to see the wipeout we only saw Wesley sitting on the floor and with his redish blonde hair in his face he was pointing yelling how the Race Car had thrown him out of bed. A feature that Dawn and I did not realize we had installed. Wesley continued saying that the car was mean and that he was in fact was pushed out of bed!

Pretty funny but none-the-less very real to a young man going on 3. How often as business owners do we blame even the most crazy situation on someone or on something else rather than taking responsiblity for what we do! Even though if we took the time to think about it we actually rolled out of bed and was not pushed by a some strange and magically force.

I am happy to report that Wesley and the Race Car have made up and as of the writing of this blog entry there have been no  further complications.
