With the arrival of our bundle of joy. We have been receiving pieces of furniture and ,of course, new toys. Recently, I had to assemble a dresser and while doing so I could not help to think that this is such a good example as to how focusing and planning works.
As with all types of put-together-style furniture it comes is a large box with lots of parts. My first thought was my goodness, I thought I was only putting together a dresser not the furniture for an entire bedroom suite!!!
So my first steps began. I removed all of the packaging and then found the 5 pound box of small parts. My daughter's room was all set and soon had the makings of the dresser assembly pant here in North Florida.
With pieces abound, I slowly began reading the novel of directions. The first step was to place little silver parts into the wood slats... well that still does not look anything like a dresser. Then I went to the next step where it detailed how to begin putting together the drawers. So on and so on the directions went on and on. As I went chapter by chapter, without directly realizing it my pile of parts became smaller and smaller and my lumber yard which surrounded me soon went away.
Even though the first step did not suddenly turn into a dresser; it soon became evident that it was the foundation for what was to be. The last step was for me to take place the wooden box upright and insert the drawers. In one final step, I had a dresser in my daughter's. Was the first step any less significant the the last? No it was part of a proven process. By following each step along the way I had something that actually works and a happy wife who was delighted to see that I did not take an entire Saturday to complete.
